School should be a place of vivid engagement and vibrant experience. Hands-on learning. Real-world problem solving. Exciting moments of doing and making that lead to deep, clear understanding.
That’s how long an early love of learning can last. Here, we spark curiosity, feed resilience, and fuel wonder. And our students carry that energy with them into high school, college, and life itself.
Early Childhood

Important first steps, both literal and metaphorical, guided by the instinctive love of learning already alive in our infants and toddlers.
This is a happy place for kids to grow up. And that’s no small thing.

Primary School

Our three-, four-, and five-year-old learners are ready to build on strong foundations and explore a whole new world of ideas.
Lower School

Every day is an adventure in learning, with hands-on, real-world problem solving in kindergarten through fourth grade.
They are always doing something
exciting in HSES classrooms. It’s
never just reading or worksheets.
It’s doing and making.

Middle School

Our fifth through eighth graders are on to great things—four more years of dynamic, affirmative learning at HSES, then academic and personal success in great high schools, colleges, and careers.
For sixty years, HSES has welcomed infants, children, and adolescents and ensured that they grow, year by year and grade by grade, from curious explorers into confident, courageous achievers.

HSES unique Ecolink program might take our students to the Houston Arboretum to study a single plant or on a nature trek to observe the interconnected whole of a forest. We dive deeply into science, become better stewards, embrace challenge, and learn cooperation in the great outdoors.

HSES students build early mastery of language and grow into empowered, expressive writers. Through play, story dictation, and dramatization, they learn to make themselves heard and make their words come to life.

HSES takes students deep into Houston’s community, history, and geography for hands-on engagement with complex issues and transformative service opportunities. For example, our students study food insecurity, then deliver supplies to a local food bank, observe operations, and serve clients—connecting economic theories to rich, nuanced, human experience.
